Solitary, With Exceptions
Solitary, With Exceptions uses live music performance with an interactive video to explore unity and isolation. This piece compares animals that live in self-defended seclusion and animals that live in herds for survival with two musicians. Their music oscillates between support and coherence and dissidence and individualistic assertions as they play and move in the space. The projected images of the animals are triggered by the volume and rhythm of the music through a Max MSP patch.
The choreography of the moving players and the movement of the animals in the video create a nuanced look on the delicate balance that isolation and togetherness play in our lives.
